STOP! If you have water damage in your property right now, call us at 503-SERVPRO RIGHT NOW. Don’t wait to mitigate - the longer damage sits unattended, the more likely it will develop secondary damage. Call us at 503-SERVPRO now.
If you’ve worked with a restoration professional before, or perhaps you are shopping for the correct mitigation specialist to help you with your water damage issue - you may see “IICRC” in their company information.
IICRC stands for The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification. The IICRC is a standards developing organization for the inspection, cleaning, and restoration industries and all restoration professionals follow the standards set forth in their manuals.
SERVPRO of Northwest Portland is a certified IICRC firm; our employees go through IICRC approved training to become well versed in the standards set forth by the IICRC. For water damage restoration, SERVPRO and other restoration companies follow the S500 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Water Damage Restoration (S500).
The S500 provides SERVPRO and other restoration professionals with an objective, independent reference to substantiate services and actions taken during restoration. Within the manual, five principles are outlined that define the water mitigation process. They are as follows:
- Provide for the Safety and Health of Workers and Occupants.
- Document and Inspect the Project.
- Mitigate Further Damage.
- Clean and Dry Affected Areas.
- Complete the Restoration and Repairs.
Over the next month, SERVPRO of Northwest Portland will detail each IICRC principle so that our community understands the standards that define our industry. Stay tuned for more information!
